Our Green Promise
Sustainability at Our Core
Every pallet we save from a landfill is a victory for the planet. Here's how we make it happen.
Why Pallet Recycling Matters
Every year in the United States, approximately 2 billion pallets are in circulation. Of those, roughly 400 million end up in landfills — taking up valuable space and representing enormous waste of natural resources.
A single wooden pallet requires approximately 12-13 board feet of lumber. When multiplied by millions, the deforestation impact is staggering. By choosing recycled pallets, businesses directly reduce demand for virgin timber and support sustainable forestry.
At Sacramento Pallet Co., we intercept pallets before they reach the landfill, extending their useful life through inspection, repair, and recertification. When a pallet truly reaches the end of its life, we break it down and recycle every component.

Our Approach
Sustainability in Every Detail
Sustainability is not just about recycling pallets. It is embedded in every aspect of how we operate — from our facility design to our delivery logistics.
Optimized Delivery Routes
Our dispatch team plans routes to minimize fuel consumption and empty miles. Trucks that deliver pallets often pick up used pallets on the return trip, eliminating wasted trips and cutting our fleet's carbon footprint by an estimated 30% compared to single-purpose routing.
Water-Free Operations
Unlike some pallet processors that use chemical treatments or washing systems, our repair and recycling processes use zero water. Heat treatment uses only thermal energy, and our sorting and repair operations are entirely mechanical.
Local Sourcing Loop
Over 90% of the pallets we process come from within a 50-mile radius of our facility, and over 90% are sold back into the same region. This tight geographic loop minimizes transportation emissions and supports the local economy.
Biomass Partnership
Wood waste that cannot be reused as pallet lumber is chipped and sent to regional biomass facilities where it generates renewable energy. This converts what would be landfill waste into clean electricity, powering approximately 200 homes annually.
Metal Reclamation
Nails, screws, and metal fasteners removed during pallet disassembly and repair are collected, sorted, and sent to metal recyclers. Even these small components are diverted from waste streams and given new life as recycled steel.
Mulch and Landscaping Products
Clean, untreated pallet wood that is too damaged for structural use is chipped into high-quality mulch sold to landscaping companies and garden centers. This creates a revenue stream from material that would otherwise be waste.
The Numbers
Recycled vs. New: Environmental Impact
Choosing recycled pallets is one of the simplest ways businesses can reduce their environmental footprint. Here is a side-by-side comparison per pallet.
| Environmental Factor | New Pallet | Recycled Pallet | Savings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trees consumed | 0.06 trees | 0 trees | 100% |
| Lumber required | 12-13 board feet | 1-2 board feet (repairs) | 85% |
| CO₂ emissions | 28 kg | 4 kg | 86% |
| Landfill waste | 22 kg (at end of single life) | 0-2 kg | 90%+ |
| Water usage (production) | 15-20 gallons | 0 gallons | 100% |
| Energy input | 85 kWh | 12 kWh | 86% |
