Company Culture

What it's really like to work at Sacramento Pallet Co.

Work Environment

Our facility is an active, outdoor pallet yard — not a cubicle farm. You will spend your days working in the open air, surrounded by the sounds of nail guns, forklifts, and a crew that communicates with energy and purpose. We keep a clean, organized yard because safety and efficiency depend on it. The atmosphere is straightforward and no-nonsense. People say what they mean, problems get solved on the spot, and everyone pulls their weight. We are not a corporate environment, and we are proud of that. What we are is a team of people who show up every day, do honest work, and treat each other with respect.

Growth Opportunities

We believe in promoting from within. Several of our current supervisors and coordinators started as repair technicians or drivers. When you demonstrate reliability, initiative, and skill, we invest in moving you up. Growth at Sacramento Pallet Co. does not just mean a title change — it means learning new aspects of the business, taking on more responsibility, and increasing your earning potential. We have team members who have moved from the repair line to yard coordination, from driving to route management, and from entry-level admin work to full operations oversight. If you are willing to learn and put in the work, there is no ceiling here.

Team Atmosphere

We are a small enough company that everybody knows everybody. You will not be anonymous here — your contributions are visible and appreciated. We celebrate wins together, whether that is hitting a record repair count for the week or landing a major new customer account. Lunch breaks are communal, banter is constant, and new hires are welcomed into the fold from day one. At the same time, we hold each other accountable. This is a team that takes pride in quality and reliability, and that shared standard is what makes the work environment positive. When everyone cares about doing it right, the whole operation runs better — and work feels better too.

Our Training Program

No experience in the pallet industry? That is perfectly fine. Here is what your first 90 days look like.

Week 1-2: Orientation & Safety

Your first two weeks focus on safety certification and facility orientation. You will complete OSHA-aligned safety training covering personal protective equipment, tool handling, forklift awareness zones, and heat treatment area protocols. You will tour every area of our operation — the repair line, sorting yard, kiln, inventory zones, and loading docks — so you understand how each piece of the business connects. By the end of week two, you will have your safety certification, a clear understanding of our processes, and the confidence to work safely in any area of the yard.

Week 3-6: Hands-On Mentorship

During weeks three through six, you are paired with an experienced team member who serves as your mentor. For repair technicians, this means working side-by-side with a senior tech who teaches you grading standards, proper repair techniques, and efficient workflow habits. For drivers, your mentor rides along on routes, showing you customer sites, dock procedures, and load securing best practices. For office and operations roles, your mentor walks you through our systems, customer accounts, and daily workflows. This is not classroom training — it is real, on-the-job learning where you are doing the work with expert guidance right beside you.

Week 7-12: Independent Work & Review

By week seven, you are working independently with increasing confidence. Your mentor is still available for questions, but you are handling your own section of the repair line, your own delivery route, or your own accounts. At the 90-day mark, you sit down with your supervisor for a formal review. We discuss your progress, answer any remaining questions, confirm your role going forward, and talk about your goals for growth within the company. The vast majority of new hires complete this program successfully and move into their full role with the skills and confidence to excel.

What Our Team Says

Hear directly from the people who work here every day.

I came here with zero experience in pallets. On my first day, they paired me with a senior tech who showed me everything — how to spot a bad stringer, how to use the nail gun safely, how to hit grade standards. Within a month, I was running my own section of the repair line. What I like most is that the work is honest. You show up, you put in the effort, and you can see exactly what you accomplished at the end of the day. The crew is solid too. We look out for each other, and management actually listens when you have an idea for doing things better.

Carlos M.

Pallet Repair Technician — 4 Years

I started as a temporary admin hire and ended up running yard operations within a year. That does not happen at most companies. Here, if you show initiative and learn fast, they give you real responsibility. My favorite part is the problem-solving — every day brings a different puzzle, whether it is a last-minute rush order, a scheduling conflict, or figuring out how to fit 600 pallets into a truck that holds 500. The pace keeps me sharp, and I genuinely enjoy coming to work. Plus, I feel good knowing that what we do keeps pallets out of landfills.

Diana R.

Yard Operations Coordinator — 2 Years

I have driven for a few different companies over the years, and this is the first place where I actually feel like part of a team instead of just a number. My route is mostly the same customers each week, so I have gotten to know the dock managers and warehouse crews. They trust me, and I take pride in making sure their deliveries are right every time. The dispatching here is organized — I am not scrambling with last-minute changes like at my old job. The truck is well-maintained, the loads are staged when I get here in the morning, and I am home by 4:00 most days. It is good, steady work.

Open Positions

We are always looking for great people. See our current openings below.

Pallet Repair Technician

Full-Time

As a Pallet Repair Technician, you are the backbone of our recycling operation. Your day starts with sorting incoming pallets by condition and size, identifying which ones can be restored to service. You will use pneumatic nail guns, pry bars, and saws to replace broken deck boards, cracked stringers, and damaged lead boards. Each pallet is rebuilt to meet our strict grading standards before it goes back into inventory. You will work alongside a small, experienced crew on our outdoor repair line, moving through a steady rhythm of inspect, disassemble, rebuild, and stack. The pace is physical but rewarding — by the end of each shift, you can see hundreds of pallets you have personally saved from the landfill. We provide all tools and safety equipment, and every new hire receives hands-on training from a senior technician during their first two weeks.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
  • Comfort working outdoors in varying weather
  • Attention to detail and quality
  • Reliable transportation

Delivery Driver

Full-Time

As a Delivery Driver, you are the face of Sacramento Pallet Co. on the road. Your morning begins at the yard, reviewing your route and loading your flatbed with the day's deliveries. You will make 4-8 stops per day across the Sacramento metro area, delivering pallets to warehouses, farms, factories, and job sites. At many stops, you will also pick up spent pallets for return to our facility — managing the “swap” that keeps our customers' docks clear and their pallet supply constant. You will secure loads, operate a forklift for loading and unloading, communicate with dock managers, and keep accurate delivery records. Over time, you build genuine relationships with the people at each stop. Many of our drivers have been on the same routes for years, and customers request them by name. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in professional, reliable service and enjoys the independence of life on the road.

Requirements

  • Valid Class B CDL (Class A preferred)
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to load/unload pallets manually or with forklift
  • Familiarity with Sacramento-area roads

Yard Operations Coordinator

Full-Time

The Yard Operations Coordinator keeps our entire facility running smoothly. You are the central hub of communication between the repair crew, drivers, sales team, and customers. Each morning you review incoming orders, schedule outbound deliveries, and assign repair priorities for the day. You track inventory levels across all pallet sizes and grades using our management system, flagging shortages before they become problems. When trucks arrive with pickups, you direct unloading, verify counts against purchase orders, and update records in real time. You coordinate with the sales team to confirm delivery windows and handle scheduling changes. On a typical day, you will manage 10-15 active orders, resolve a handful of dock scheduling conflicts, and ensure every truck leaves on time and fully loaded. This is a fast-paced role that rewards strong organizational instincts, clear communication, and the ability to solve problems on the fly.

Requirements

  • Previous warehouse or logistics experience
  • Basic computer skills (inventory systems, email)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)

Sales Representative

Full-Time

As a Sales Representative, you drive the growth of Sacramento Pallet Co. by identifying new customers, building relationships, and ensuring every account receives the right pallet solution for their operation. Your week is a mix of prospecting calls, in-person facility visits, quoting, and account management. You will visit warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturers, and farms across the Sacramento region, assessing their pallet needs on-site and presenting solutions that save them money. You work closely with our operations team to ensure pricing accuracy, inventory availability, and delivery timing. Existing accounts rely on you as their point of contact — you monitor their usage patterns, anticipate reorder needs, and proactively solve issues before they escalate. The role comes with a base salary plus commission on new business, giving you direct control over your earnings. Top performers have a path to sales management as we continue to grow.

Requirements

  • B2B sales experience preferred
  • Self-motivated with strong follow-through
  • Knowledge of logistics or supply chain industry is a plus
  • Valid driver's license for customer visits

Forklift Operator

Full-Time

As a Forklift Operator, you keep materials moving efficiently across our entire yard. Your day involves loading and unloading delivery trucks, stacking sorted pallets in designated inventory zones, feeding the repair line with incoming stock, and staging completed orders for outbound delivery. You operate sit-down counterbalance forklifts and occasionally a rough-terrain unit for outdoor yard work. Precision matters — pallets must be stacked safely and correctly by size and grade so the repair crew, drivers, and customers can find what they need without delay. You will work in close coordination with the Yard Operations Coordinator, responding to shifting priorities as trucks arrive and orders change throughout the day. Safety is paramount, and you will participate in daily equipment inspections and weekly safety briefings. This is a great role for someone who takes pride in keeping things organized, enjoys operating heavy equipment, and wants steady, year-round work in an outdoor environment.

Requirements

  • Valid forklift certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
  • Experience operating sit-down counterbalance forklifts
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong spatial awareness and attention to safety protocols
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality

Administrative Assistant

Full-Time

The Administrative Assistant is the organizational hub of our office, supporting the sales team, operations staff, and ownership with the daily administrative tasks that keep the business running. Your responsibilities include answering phones and greeting walk-in customers, processing purchase orders and invoices, managing accounts receivable and following up on outstanding payments, maintaining customer and vendor records in our system, and coordinating schedules for deliveries and pickups. You will also prepare reports on inventory levels, sales activity, and financial summaries for weekly management meetings. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable juggling multiple priorities, and genuinely enjoys being the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. You do not need pallet industry experience — we will teach you the business. What matters is your ability to stay organized, communicate clearly, and bring a positive, professional attitude to every interaction.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Strong phone and email communication skills
  • Experience with invoicing, accounts receivable, or basic bookkeeping
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional demeanor and customer-facing confidence
